APPLYING FOR RELIEF

It can be challenging to navigate disaster assistance. FEMA has provided a Fact vs. Fiction Guide to help answer questions and dispel misinformation. FEMA assistance is also NOT limited to $750.00. This is assistance approved “soon after you apply, called Serious Needs Assistance.”  Rest assured, I am working to ensure FEMA has the resources needed to help Florida recover from Helene and Milton.

You may apply for FEMA assistance by:

PREVENT FRAUD

It is important to be on high alert for bad actors who will take advantage of Helene and Milton. Please read below for tips to protect yourself against fraud after a disaster:

  • Always ask FEMA staff to show you a photo ID badge.
  • Never agree to pay a fee for disaster assistance or filling out applications.
  • If a FEMA inspector comes to your home and you haven't filed a FEMA application, your information may have been used without your knowledge. Keep your FEMA registration number and personal info safe.
  • Call the National Center for Disaster Fraud Hotline at: 866-720-5721 to report scam incidents.

Thank you to first responders, emergency management staff and utility workers and others working during and after major storms to protect our neighbors and keep our community safe. Like always, I am confident Central Florida will face this challenge united, emerging as an even stronger community.
