Special Forces Association Scholarship Application Window Opens 1 April Closes 15 May

It’s time to get ready for the 2026 SFA Scholarship program. The application window will open 1 April and close 15 May. The new scholarship page on Teamhouse (Scholarships - Special Forces Association) provides information and instructions on submission.

Eligibility

• Applicant is an SFA member in good standing, or a dependent/grandchild of an SFA member in good standing.
• Dependents/grandchildren of a deceased SFA member are eligible if the member was in good standing at time of death.
• Applicant must be accepted to (or attending) an accredited college, university, or technical/vocational institution.

The 2026 Special Operations Forces Charity Golf Tournament is coming up on 11 June 2026 2025.  It is held at the Indian Summer Golf & Country Club, 5900 Troon Ln SE, Olympia, WA 98501.

This is the 3rd Annual Special Operations Forces Charity Golf Tournament benefiting foundations and associations who support the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) and 4th Battalion/160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR).

Our very own Teammates Special Forces Association Chapter XVI Chaplain Doug Henry, Volunteer Director, 1st SFG(A) SF Scholarship Fund, Rick Thomas and President, First In Asia Association, Dennis Downey are the points of contact for this tournament.

WHO WE SUPPORT

We accomplish our mission through sponsorship of numerous activities and causes such as:

• The 1SFG(A) Scholarship Fund:
  • Raised $58,000 in FY 25 funding 42 scholorships for 1st Group kids.The fund awards merit-based, post-secondary, educational scholarships to the families of current soldiers and veterans.
• We advance the public image of Special Forces through annual participation in the Auburn, WA Veterans Day Parade.
• Family/Group Support:
  • We host an annual picnic for our members that serves to bring together our state’s dispersed teammates for food, comradery and recreation.This is our VSO’s opportunity to reach our members in need of support.
  • We support the 1 SFG annual Trunk or Treat event each Halloween.
  • We collaborate with 1 SFG (A) Family Programs such as SFRG and 1^st Spouse mentorship.
• Menton Week Activities:
  • We advance the public image of Special Forces by sponsoring our local community VIP supporters at the annual Family Weapons Familiarization Day and breakfast get together.
  • We provide some Menton Week Military Ball tickets for deserving soldiers.
  • We provide food and beverages for the Menton Week socials in support of our guests both local and international.
• Support for Operational Detachments Alpha (ODA)/A-Teams:
  • We provide beverages for the 1^st SFG Annual Organization Day picnic as well as cookies and drinks for the children.
  • We host events, meetings and breakfast get togethers throughout the year that provide venues for perpetuating the Special Forces traditions of brotherhood and comradery.
• Celebration of Life Events for the Fallen:
  • We provide the families of the fallen with support as needed for memorial and recognition of life events for our deceased comrades: seven in FY24, so far.
  • We provide Chaplain assistance and planning support for the families of the fallen in their time of need.
  • We sponsor the “Hero Workout” with assistance for purchasing refreshments.Hero Workout honors our combat fallen from Afghanistan, Iraq and the Philippines.
• Gold Star Families support and recognition events:
  • We have responded to the immediate needs of Gold Star Families quietly and with respect. Such as providing funding to hire a landscaper for one time support or offering funds to fly family members in to attend a memorial service for fallen warriors.
  • We provide support to and a venue for the Gold Star Lunch during the annual Menton Week festivities.
