The William R. Card Chapter 16 of the Special Forces Association is a 501(c)19 Veteran’s Service Organization that serves as the voice for the Special Forces Community in Western Washington. We perpetuate Special Forces traditions of brotherhood and comradery, advance the public image of Special Forces and promote the general welfare of the Special Forces Community, both past and present, and their families. We are based at Joint Base Lewis McChord with the 1st Special Forces Group (1st SFG). This proximity allows us to serve the needs of the active duty.

Our goal is to be a source of inspiration and esprit de corps for all Special Forces personnel, veterans and their families

2025 Special Forces Association Scholarship Application Window is CLOSED!

Applications for the 2025 Special Forces Association scholarship will be accepted between April 1st and May 15th. Please review the SFA scholarship instructions on Teamhouse and start working on your application now.

The SFA Scholarship Fund Policies, Guidelines and check list are published on Teamhouse.  Please go there for details.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a SFA member in good standing, or the dependent or grandchild of a SFA member in good standing, or of a deceased member who was in good standing at the time of death.  Applicants must have already been accepted by, or be in attendance at, an accredited college, university, junior college, or technical/vocational school at which the scholarship will be applied.

The 2025 Special Operations Forces Charity Golf Tournament is coming up on 15 May 2025.  It is held at the prestigious Tacoma Country & Golf Club.

This is the 2nd Annual Special Operations Forces Charity Golf Tournament benefiting foundations and associations who support the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) and 4th Battalion/160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR).

Please see the attached documents. The sponsor levels for Gold, Silver and Bronze vary in pricing according to the perks included. The price for an individual player is $500 and a foursome is $2000.  Quite the deal to play at the prestigious Tacoma Country & Golf Club considering all that is included in the package.  Price includes golf, lunch & dinner, apparel, prizes, practice facility, and cart.

1st Special Forces Group Reunion 2025



Reunion will be held at Helena, Montana. The dates are 18 August to 22 August.

This is not an event organized by Chapter 16.  Please direct all questions to the event point of contact.

 

The Point of Contact for this event is Phil Grounds.  He is available to answer any questions that you may have about the event.  The reunion is for adults as childcare is not available.

WHO WE SUPPORT

We accomplish our mission through sponsorship of numerous activities and causes such as:

 

  • The Special Forces Scholarship Fund:
    • We raised $8,660 in FY 24 for the Fund.The fund awards merit-based, post-secondary, educational scholarships to the families of current soldiers and veterans.
  • We advance the public image of Special Forces through annual participation in the Auburn, WA Veterans Day Parade.
  • Family/Group Support:
    • We host an annual picnic for our members that serves to bring together our state’s dispersed teammates for food, comradery and recreation.This is our VSO’s opportunity to reach our members in need of support.
    • We support the 1 SFG annual Trunk or Treat event each Halloween.
    • We collaborate with 1 SFG (A) Family Programs such as SFRG and 1st Spouse mentorship.
  • Menton Week Activities:
    • We advance the public image of Special Forces by sponsoring our local community VIP supporters at the annual Family Weapons Familiarization Day and breakfast get together.
    • We provide some Menton Week Military Ball tickets for deserving soldiers.
    • We provide food and beverages for the Menton Week socials in support of our guests both local and international.
  • Support for Operational Detachments Alpha (ODA)/A-Teams:
    • We provide beverages for the 1st SFG Annual Organization Day picnic as well as cookies and drinks for the children.
    • We host events, meetings and breakfast get togethers throughout the year that provide venues for perpetuating the Special Forces traditions of brotherhood and comradery.
  • Celebration of Life Events for the Fallen:
    • We provide the families of the fallen with support as needed for memorial and recognition of life events for our deceased comrades: seven in FY24, so far.
    • We provide Chaplain assistance and planning support for the families of the fallen in their time of need.
    • We sponsor the “Hero Workout” with assistance for purchasing refreshments.Hero Workout honors our combat fallen from Afghanistan, Iraq and the Philippines.
  • Gold Star Families support and recognition events:
    • We have responded to the immediate needs of Gold Star Families quietly and with respect. Such as providing funding to hire a landscaper for one time support or offering funds to fly family members in to attend a memorial service for fallen warriors.
    • We provide support to and a venue for the Gold Star Lunch during the annual Menton Week festivities.
